Playing with Light.

In People by EdwardFiederPhotography / May 13, 2013 / 0 Comments

The other night me and some friends met up downtown and we made a night of it. It originally started with me and Wes wanting to take pictures but then Joel joined us because he was “bored” and Travis needed to run because hes trying to get in shape to join the Fire Dept. Kind of a weird set up how it all works out. So, we meet…Travis runs…and I see a church a little down the road. Joel was with me and I’ve shot him a lot throughout the years so I grabbed my lights and we played around for 15-20 minutes with different angles and lighting set ups. Lugging around a ton of lighting equipment in a torn, beat up cardboard box isn’t too great and was made fun of throughout the night for it…I’ll invest in something better…eventually.

Anyway, this is the shot I liked the most of the ones I took of Joel.

Lit with a softbox camera right on a stand above the head. One light…simple.

The Renaissance Hotel

Me and some fellow photographers in the Montgomery area decided to meet up, have a few drinks, and talk about photography. That lasted almost 3 hours and then we decided to walk around downtown for a little bit and shoot some. I was a little…tired…and didn’t take too many photos. This was the first one I landed I decided to shoot. I always had the Renaissance Hotel in the background of some of my downtown shots but didn’t have a shot of the hotel itself. The pink fountain grabbed my attention so I settled on shooting some exposures of it. Since it was cloudy and somewhat rainy it came out pretty awesome.

We also went down to the Riverfront area and shot a few shots. The other guys found more than I did. It got to the point where I laid down for a few while everyone else was shooting. I hope they got more than I did!

Seesaw Fun!

In People by EdwardFiederPhotography / May 3, 2013 / 0 Comments

My buddy Wes and I went looking for this church we heard about that had a pretty cool garden. We searched one night and just ended up driving around for an hour watching the sun set. A couple weeks passed and he three me a text this morning telling me he had found it and that it was down the road from where he worked. So after he got off we met up and explored it. It really was a cool place! It had a lot of fountains and flowers…there was a graveyard…and right next to the graveyard…A PARK! It was so cool so we decided to goof off for a little bit and have some fun.

While attempting the see saw, which we failed at by the way, we thought it would be funny if we made it look like I was being catapulted off of it while someone was sitting on it. I set the camera up and fired multiple shots to make sure we got me falling in just the right area. I landed on my chest and checked the camera then merged the 2 images into photoshop!

…I love humor.

Abandon All Ships!

Me and a friend were exploring around the outskirts of Montgomery the other night and found this sweet little area. I saw a video of this boat that was sinking and you could see it from the interstate but I didn’t know how to get there. Well, one of my friends I follow on Vine had a video of him at a restaurant and the video cut to this exact boat that was sinking! I knew there was a way down there so me and my buddy Wes GPS’d the restaurant and sure enough we found it. It took us awhile to find a decent spot to shoot it since it’s kind of a hazard to just walk to because of it sinking and all. We hung around the area for at least a half hour and this is the final shot I decided to edit. A little exploring can go a long way!

Fishing for Compliments

In People,Scenery by EdwardFiederPhotography / April 16, 2013 / 0 Comments

It’s been a lonely couple weeks. Both me and Brendan don’t have a lot of friends that can actively hang out whenever we want where we live. Which is unfortunate because its…so…boring…being…alone…

SO NATURALLY WE WERE FEELING PRETTY DOWN…

I decided to come and visit him for a few days and when I got here we decided to go fish for some compliments….and boy…did we catch a whopper!

Boredom

In Uncategorized by EdwardFiederPhotography / April 9, 2013 / 0 Comments

The amount of boredom I have in my life…is way too high. I’ve grown very tired of taking pictures of building and scenic stuff. While those types of subjects are great because they don’t move and you can take pictures of them basically anytime you want, the amount of interesting things to take pictures of architecturally speaking gets bland quick. Its only April and I feel this 365 project is about to get a lot harder. I would like to photograph people but a lot of what I want to do is experimentation and I don’t want to waste someones time going somewhere and getting nothing accomplished.

For the record…this picture is 1 exposure…no photoshop necessary…google light painting…it’s pretty awesome!

Its my birthday…and thats no joke.

In People by EdwardFiederPhotography / April 2, 2013 / 0 Comments

April fools day is my birthday…yes…it’s true. I just turned 26 and it was pretty mediocre of a day. Literally did nothing all day but workout and drive around to run some errands. This is the first year I have had a birthday and saw NONE of my friends…not a one…but honestly what are you going to do on a Monday night?! Yea, so it isn’t a shocker.

On a more depressing note my mom had a heart attack last thursday night and surgery last Saturday which is why its been awhile since I’ve updated my blog, and continued on my 365 project. My mom will be alright but she has a long healing process ahead of her. It’s a good thing my entire family is here to help her with everything she needs.  Now I am getting things back in order and I can continue on with my project  and move forward!

TL;DR – Its my birthday today, mom had a heart attack and surgery last week, game time.

Jenny’s House

In Scenery by EdwardFiederPhotography / March 22, 2013 / 0 Comments

A buddy of mine randomly posted some pictures he took of the sets from Big Fish. Big Fish was a movie that was filmed in Alabama…in 2003…and these sets are still around. Naturally when seeing that this place existed I knew I had to get there to do some photos. Well, I tried to google its location and found one set of directions and they were COMPLETELY wrong. Wasted a good 40 minutes of time and gas. It ends up that this place is in the middle of nowhere and doubles as a camp ground that you have to have a membership for and you need a code to get the gate open. We didn’t have a membership so we had to park at the gate and walk all the way there. We finally got there and I have to say…it was well worth the walk. I started snapping images from all directions and this is my favorite shot from this particular spot. This was Jenny’s House from Big Fish. If you’ve seen the movie or watch it again (its currently on Netflix) you’ll see this house. Unfortunately, sets for movies aren’t built to last and this one is well on its way to becoming nothing but a memory. I’m definitely glad I got to go to this spot before everything was gone.

River Walk Amphitheater

Me and a friend went downtown today to grab a bite and just hang out for a couple hours. We went to a local Soda Shop, and a place called Chris’s Hotdogs where anyone that lives in Montgomery should know about. Afterwards we went to the River Walk Amphitheater to see about some shots and I snagged this beaut. Unfortunately, the sun was not covered with clouds like it was when we were walking down there so the light was really harsh. I thought some clouds were moving in front of the sun and that would help diffuse it but I was wrong and just ended up with watering eyes and blindness while trying to see if the clouds were moving in the suns direction. Overall I like this shot and the depth the clouds give it. I will probably go back there sometime in the future to see what its like at sunset and at night. Maybe even go during a concert!
